TITLE HORTICULTURE ATLAS OF JAMMU DIVISION

YEAR 2021

VISION We aim to strengthen an enabling environment to enhance contribution of Horticulture in
Gross Domestic Product, making the growers of Jammu Division market leader in high
quality produce through efficient and profitable processes which will deliver value to our
expertise, increasing returns to growers and enhance employment.

MISSION è To provide holistic growth of the horticulture sector through an area based regionally
differentiated strategies which include research, technology promotion, extension,
post-harvest management, processing and marketing in consonance with
comparative advantage of each region and its diverse agro-climatic feature.
è To enhance horticulture production, improve nutritional security and income support
to farmers.
è To establish convergence and synergy among multiple ongoing and planned
programmes for horticulture development.
è To promote, develop and disseminate technologies through a seamless blend of
traditional wisdom and modern scientific knowledge.
è To create opportunities for employment generation for skilled and unskilled youth.
è To develop hi - tech commercial horticulture in identified clusters.
è To develop modern post - harvest management infrastructure as integral part of area
expansion projects.
è Capacity building through skill training, imparting technical knowledge on food safety,
standards & hygiene and quality improvement.
è Support to Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Custom Hiring Centres (CHCs).

OBJECTIVES è To improve the quality and production of Horticulture crops by integrated
implementation of viable, eco-friendly, validated and refined technologies.
è To promote the establishment of modern nurseries for ensuring availability of quality
planting material within the easy reach of farming community.
è To strengthen the availability of irrigation water resources and irrigation systems
according to need of the crop and topography.
è To organize on-farm trainings within and outside the Union Territory of Jammu and
Kashmir with an aim to acquaint the farming community with new frontiers of
knowledge of developed technologies to achieve a vibrant, responsive and resilient
Horticulture which should be eco-friendly, equitable, sustainable and economically
productive.
è To encourage the concept of organic farming and minimize the use of chemical
fertilizers in Horticulture Crops.
è To boost quality fruit production from all the unproductive, senile, inferior and wild fruit
plantation into productive and commercially viable cultivars through Rejuvenation
and Top working technologies.
è To assure overall development of Horticulture sector and make it more remunerative
and profitable so that economic status of the farming community can be improved
and the Horticulture in the Jammu Division become a key sector for strengthening the
economy of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
