Foreword
“Success comes to those who work hard and stays with
those, who don't rest on the laurels of the part”.
Horticulture being a growth engine of Farming sector and a
way to attain nutritional security. To meet the growing
nutritional demands of the increasing population
supplemented with greater awareness among the masses
on healthy diet, necessitates increasing the production of
horticulture crops.
Department of Horticulture has taken up various innovative

activities like High-Density Area Expansion Programme,
Director Horticulture Cultivation of commercial crops like Strawberry & Aloevera,
Jammu
Creation of Irrigation Infrastructure, Protected cultivation,
Promotion of Organic Farming, Post Harvest Management, Inauguration of Facilitation-
cum- Demonstration centres, besides introduction of exotic fruit crops.
Feeling extremely delighted to put forth the rst edition of “Horticulture Atlas of
Jammu Division” the need of which was long felt. It has been divided into 02 sections the
rst section deals with the Horticulture Maps of 10 districts of Jammu Division, showing

key fresh fruits and Dry fruits with area and production of each crop. While as the 2
section deals with Strategies on Strengthening Horticulture Sector in Jammu Division.
I would like to record my sincere thanks to Sh. Navin Kumar Choudhary IAS,
Principal Secretary to Government Horticulture Department for giving me this opportunity
to pilot this publication. I congratulate the Horticulture Department team particularly Ms.
Harpreet Arora, who has painstakingly produced this book and sincerely hope that it
proves to be an effective compilation for administrators, policy makers, researchers and
farmers in implementing various policies and programmer in the Division.
