production and utilization of bio-agents to field functionaries and farmers with
special reference to the fruit crops having export potential viz, walnut, apple, etc.
Besides, a tissue culture Laboratory has also been established at
Udhaywalla for the mass multiplication of Strawberry and Carnation.
FRUITS AND VEGETABLES PROCESSING FACILITIES
The Department of Horticulture has established one fruit and vegetable
Craft Centre at Jammu and 5 Fruit Preservation And Utilization Extension
Centres at Udhampur, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, Doda (Bhaderwah) districts of
the Division. The Centres provide assistance to the public in general and growers
in particular in processing of their surplus fruit and vegetable into different
products like Jams, Jellies, squashes, pickles and canned products etc. Training
courses are also conducted so as to enable them to establish their own
processing units.
PESTICIDE TESTING LABORATORY
A Pesticide Testing Laboratory has been established at Horticulture
Complex, Talab Tillo, Jammu with the objective to have a check on the sale of
spurious/ misbranded pesticides.
ADVANCE CENTRE FOR HORTICULTURE DEVELOPMENT (ACHD),
RAMBAN
ACHD was established under Indo-Italian Fruit Development Project
during the year 1984-85 at Govindpura Ramban. The main thrust of the project
was to develop Olive plantation of exotic / improved cultivars. Propagation of
Pear, Plum, Peach, Apricot, Hazelnut, Citrus, Pomegranate, Strawberry and
walnut were also included in the developmental plan of the unit. The Centre
propagates budded / grafted plants of these fruits. Also raising / multiplication of
Strawberry, kiwi plant material from cuttings uder controlled conditions (Hi-tech
Green Houses) is also done.
