Message from Directors Desk

It gives me an immense pleasure to share my views on the official desk. Since Horticulture sector is the backbone of states economy and its contribution in the development of state cannot be ruled out. Horticulture sector has gained its importance due to availability of vast potential and varied agro climatic conditions in the state. In Jammu division all the major agro climatic conditions are available ranging from subtropical to temperate thus the region has the privilege for cultivation of different fruits having great commercial value round the year. The establishment of orchards not only provide fruits, improves the nutritional status of its population but also generates employment avenues to the unemployed youth directly and indirectly, increases the farm income along with intangible benefits which needs no further elaboration.

Moreover various new initiatives have been taken by the department to give further push to the sector with the adoption of latest scientific interventions in cultivation of fruits and its post harvest management.

High density plantation, Skill development programme, horticulture mechanization, value addition of horticulture produce, establishment of high tech nurseries for production of high quality planning material for the end users and bridging the gap between the orchardists and the experts from the department have received special attention.

I take this opportunity to request the general public and farmers in particular to come forward and avail the assistance under different centrally /state sponsored schemes to uplift their socio economic status.
